new gouache palette...

I’ve been sick now for what feels like forever and a day. I am not good at resting but in this case, I am forced to. I saw a really cool paint palette on YouTube the other day. I couldn’t get it out of my head. I remembered this really cool cigar tin my friend had gifted me. She put some watercolor pans in it, but I never got around to filling them, This morning I sat in my studio and went for it.

I started by pulling all the paint colors I wanted for this petite tray. I mixed a few custom colors too. I then took wood glue and placed all the pans into the tin, incorporating a fun little arrangement not typically found in artist palettes. I then filled the pans and added two little strips of foam to the sides of the palette. My thinking with that was that gouache tends to dry out and crack. I’m going to try spraying these down with water when I’m done painting to keep it humid inside. Will report back if this works!

Cheers to Malen!

It is always a delight to hear from teachers who share my books with their students. This picture was sent to me by Roberta Flannagan Serrano of the Midland School in Branchburg, NJ-a non-profit special ed school serving the individual social, emotional, academic and career needs of children with developmental disabilities. Malen made an adorable “Lovey Bunny” and I just ADORE it! She is graduating this June and I hope she keeps creating art! Way to go Malen!!! xo

Good ol' Pet Rocks!

Who doesn't love making one of these? I am sharing the work of some very imaginative kindergarteners. We had a lot of fun making these last week. There should be a few more but I think they are still drying. Never give a child too much paint. lol

MAM Art Truck!

So one of my part time gigs is teaching at the local art museum and yesterday I did an event at the Montclair Public Library where we made a craft project on the plaza. My friend Bruce drove the MAM Art truck but it was only when we were leaving that it dawned on me that this was a converted ice cream truck!!!!!! We drove through the streets with that classic chiming music playing and I haven't laughed that hard in a long time. Want a Fudgesicle© kiddo? Sorry, only art supplies! But we can help you create something cool! ;)
