nice press for "The Belonging Tree"

Our little book is almost 3 months old now. It’s nice to see people talking about it on social media. Someone posted a video this week where she was reading the book to a little girl and then asked her about eating “warm acorn soup”. Her reaction was priceless! Wish i could post it here.

So much work went into this book. Done completely in watercolors, rounds and rounds of revisions, a launch in a pandemic…so it is rewarding to see it well received! Hope all of you are doing well. Stay safe!

Launch for "The Belonging Tree"

Well, it certainly wasn’t the book event I’d imagined two years ago when I started this project. The author and I had traded emails about doing a co-signing in NYC when the book came out. Then Covid. But it’s all about making the most of a situation so luckily the nice folks at Print: A bookstore in Portland, Maine hosted a virtual launch for us! We had a really nice time and after Maryann read, I went through my creative process and showed viewers a soup to nuts presentation where I went through the various stages of making a book.

"The Belonging Tree" book trailer!

I’ve been working on this trailer for a few weeks. Excited to finally share it with you. Maryann Cocca-Leffler wrote a very thoughtful (and timely!) book which I had the pleasure of illustrating. It has themes about respect, inclusion and diversity. We need this book now. It is so toxic out there…I can’t believe how toxic.. I naively thought people would be kinder during this pandemic, but I was wrong. Love your neighbor. Be kind.
