I was so happy to learn that my first instructional art book “Nature Painting in Watercolors” (Walter Foster, 2021) was translated into Italian. I’ve been thinking about teaching some workshops abroad and this would be a great element to add to the program. Of course, my Italian is just awful so perhaps I should really make an effort to learn the language.

It’s been a ton of work but it is just about done now. Need to read through and make any last minute edits, but it is almost finished. I’ve said it before but this book kept my mind occupied during those initial scary months of the pandemic. I had a deep focus which kept me off the couch and in the studio. This book was originally scheduled for November but, well, we all know how Covid threw a wrench in everything. But I plodded along and kept to the schedule, regardless. It was such a challenge but also such a joy since this book was both the brainchild of all my morning nature loving walks and the watercolor work I did on my last picture book. I feel like this process was a metaphor for life in some way—you stay focused, keep working hard, ignore the noise and at the end you have this thing that may not have seemed possible a year ago.

Happy New Year everyone! I hope 2020 is a great creative year for all of you. I love to mix it up each year and challenge myself as an artist. I decided to do more quick studies in watercolor so I sharpen my skills. No computer. Just a brush and paint. It’s a lot of fun so far! Busy working on the book so this is a great early am. start to my day. Should be fun to look back on at the end of the year. :)
Plein air afternoon...
Stole a few hours yesterday afternoon to plop myself down at Van Vleck gardens and paint. The place is absolutely gorgeous and abundant with beautiful flowers and grasses. Here’s a peek at what I worked on.
A gorgeous Spring!
My morning walks are absolutely beautiful lately. So much growth after all the rain. This has been an odd Spring with cold temps )woke up tp 36 degrees earlier this week!) and constantly changing weather. But the colors are off the charts! I take pics every 10 paces and then rush home to paint them! I’ve been mixing many watercolors into dish designs. So much fun!
