Every once in a while, I get the urge to try something completely out of my comfort zone. I’ve always been like this and have found that taking risk always leads to something else. I talk to a lot of creators and it’s the fear of failure keeps so many of us from pursuing a new path. But if you don’t try, you will never know! I think of all the rejections I had when starting out in children’s publishing (still happens, btw) but if I hadn’t tried, I would never have all these books under my belt. If you are a novelist, you start with a rough draft. A painting starts with a loose sketch. There are beginning stages for everything but the most important thing is that you TRY. So if anyone out there needs a pep talk, I say go for it! If you are stuck, take a walk. Take an online class. Just keep following your heart. It’s always worth it. xo, k
